...to complain.
US
soccer players are such prima donas. I swear, if I ever had players on
my team that were as talented and yet as passive as these players, I'd
bench their sorry cans and rip them up and down!!!
Seriously,
I've seen quite a few opportunities that never materialized b/c a US
player or two just sit back and watch the non-pretty ball trickle by
them. As a coach it pisses me off and makes me agree with the rest of
the world that underrates the US national team.
What a bunch of chumps...

EDIT: Landon Donovan. Totally overrated.
EDIT
EDIT: Although I do think that the refs in this World Cup have blown
huge calls (like the penalty kick that Ghana got off the non-foul), the
US still sucked and deserved to lose. | | |

| So, to avoid a spiritual post, I've decided to rant on a political note.
I
just got done reading an article on AOL
(http://articles.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20060607041109990001&ncid=NWS00010000000001)
about a painter who painted a picture of Secretary of Defense Donald
Rumsfeld and describes it as symbolizing "America's soulless might and
arrogance." Read the article to get some more insight.
I was
pretty incensed by this and decided to post some stuff on AOL
describing my anger. As I read some of the posts, I got even more
pissed. So many people blathering on and on about how anyone who gets
upset at this painting is brainwashed or a war-monger or a
conspiracy-theory freak. And then you have the others returning fire
about how the media is always throwing out propoganda outlining the
evils of the war and not the benefits and how America is hated b/c it
is good.
Well, last time I checked, America consisted of humans
and so did every other country out there. Also, again when I checked,
I noticed that people always interpret things the way they want to see
them. I also noticed that no matter how much people say they respect
everyone elses opinions and they are entitled to those opinions, they
always try to argue their opinion b/c they think they are right and the
other people are wrong. So much for open minded...
So, my propoganda on Bush, Iraq, and other screwed up things:
Our
governemnt is all sorts of stupid. Why? B/c it is run by people for
people. And since we humans all have our different opinions and change
our minds as much as our underwear, we're all going to make bad
decisions at times and we're all going to try to defend our decisions
b/c we hate to be told we're wrong..
Bush. Well, when he was up
against Gore, I was all about him. When he was up against Kerry, he
was the lesser of two evils. Why did my opinion change? B/c I think
he changed. Politics changed him. Do I still think that he is a good
president? Yeah, I think he is doing the best job that he can. I
think that he relies on his advisors instead of himself (which I think
is a good trait), but I think some of his advisors are a little
long-in-the-tooth politcally. In a summary, I support him and I am
glad that he is our current president.
Regarding Iraq. I have
an Iraqi uncle who's family still lives around Baghdad, so I get a
unique perspective that way. Iraq is a huge cluster. Although
Saddam's reign was a reign of terror, there was definitely stability
for the residents of Iraq. They knew just what they could do and what
punishments would come if they didn't. Now, things are chaotic.
Anytime you have a power shift, things go bonkers b/c humans are going
to try ot grab as much power as they can whenever they can. So, did
the US mess up by going into Iraq? Yeah, probably. Especially since
there didn't turn out to be any WMDs. However, I think Bush acted on
the intelligence (or lack thereof) that he had at the time, so he can't
be blamed by himself. And, now that we're there we should be doing all
that we can there and here to make sure the country can be secure.
This means people need to stop pissing and moaning about how we screwed
up. What's done is done and it's going to need to be done until the
governemnt over there is solidified and can police itself. We need to
enocurage our leaders to do what it takes to get this done as this is
the best means of protecting our troops over there and getting them
back home ASAP.
A note on our troops: I have heard a lot about
troops being disappointed in how much of the negative is emphasized and
how little of the good is told. Makes sense to me. Also, having
friends and acquaintances in the military, I would love for them to be
at home and out of harms way, but I also know that if they pull out
before the Iraqi state is solidified, than a huge power vacuum will
form in the Middle East and God only knows what could/would happen
then. I can fairly guarantee that it'd be hella worse than what is
happening now.
OK. I'll stand down from my soap box now...

| And more than likely so are you.
I've been reading "Walk On: The
Spiritual Journey of U2" and it is amazing. I know. Some of you roll
your eyes when you hear U2 and think they are no-talent old farts whose
songs all sound the same and should've retired years ago. Well, I tell
you to read this book and gain a whole new appreciation.
This
book has put something into my heart and mind that I hope never leaves
and that is compassion. Sure, by American standards I'm pretty
compassionate. My wife and I sponsor two kids in foreign countries, we
give above average (by U.S. standards) amounts to charities and we give
what we can of our time to help others. But, through "Walk On," I have
been convinced that I am a greedy, greedy sonumabeechima. And, as I
said before, you probably are, too.
Fair Trade is a movement
that I knew of before and thought was a good idea, but never really
felt motivated to get real hard-core invovled with. But then Bono
confronted me. He and his wife talk about how American companies screw
whoever they can in order to turn more of a profit. We take jobs away
from hard working people who need the money and give them to people
that will work for a pittance and in less-than-stellar conditions.
Look at how much of our crap is made in China or Malaysia or other
thrid world countries where child labor is just a fact of life! All
this to make a dollar? What would Christ think?
Well, according
to many Christian view points, these 'business decisions' are
rationalized under the guise of being 'good stewards' of what God has
entrusted. Bull Schtuff!!! What about loving your neighbor as
yourself? Would you like to be paid pennies a day and work in a poorly
ventilated building in stifling heat at the age of 12?!?!?
This
is what Fair Trade combats. Fair Trade is designed to make sure that
those that produce the products labled as 'Fair Trade certified' are
being justly compensated for their labor and that they are not being
subjected to dispicable work conditions. By providing people with
honest cash flow and respect, you develop their self-esteem, which can
affect those in their communities, both locally and nationally.
Bono
talks a lot about this in regards to Africa. A comparison he makes is
that their are a hundred potential Afghanistans in Africa (i.e. there
are lots of potential terrorist states) just waiting to boil over. He
makes what I feel is a valid claim in that by ensuring Fair Trade with
these countries we take away some of their reasons to be angry with
us. We show them respect and kindness and a desire to treat them as
equals in God's creation.
So, whata does this mean to you? What
can you do to change things? How can you get involved? Well, you can
start by learning more. Google 'Fair Trade' and pick any of the top
sites (the www.data.org one is an organization that Bono helped start)
to learn more. Also, on items that you regularly buy, try to see if
there are fair trade alternatives. (At this time it is a bit limited in
the US as we haven't caught on b/c we are greedy pigs. Mainly coffee,
tea, rice and fruits.) Most of all, let the Holy Spirit search your
heart and challenge you to see how He would stand on this issue.
Above all, follow Christ.
Peace and Blessings, K.J.

| Before I post, again another reminder of my move to MySpace:
http://www.myspace.com/guy_like_job
Today's society is completely and uterly inundated with sex. I see it
everywhere, but no where more disturbingly and frustratingly than in
the youth in the Church. Do you know why? Because most of the youth
in the church don't understand why they should avoid sex and sexiness
and many of the adults in the Church don't have the balls to stand up
and explain it.
Rob Bell said one time (and I think he kifed it from someone else) that
we can't blame the dark for being dark; that's what it is supposed to
do. Instead, we need to look at the light and blame it for not being
brighter.
All this to say that you (the youth) getting wrapped up in the
trappings of their culture is to be expected. They don't often know
enough to discern between culture and Christ. After all, how can you
know if we (the adults) don't teach you?
So here I is. I'ma gonna learn you good. So listen up.
Sex is relatively simple scripturally: If you're married, go for it.
Live it up. Enjoy it b/c that's how God intended it. If you're not
married, you best keep your clothes on b/c otherwise you're sinning.
So what is sex? Well, that seems to be the million dollar question.
Thanks to Bill Clinton, many in culture seem to think that anything
short of intercourse is still OK. But scripturally, if you look at
Matthew 5:27-30, it says that even 'undressing someone with your eyes'
is sex. (I know that the passage deals with adultery specifically, but
the principle is easily transferable.) So, yes, intercourse is sex.
So is oral sex and any sort of intentional physical contact with the
errogenous areas of the opposite sex. So is looking at porn and
watching the opposite sex with a 'desirous' eye.
Another thing to consider, and this especially impacts todays teens in
the world of, um, 'odd' piercings, uh, 'questionable' tattoo locations
and, well, sex-driven clothing. Here's the deal: if you aren't married
and you have no right (scripturally) to enjoy the activity of sex, then
do you think you have the right to feel sexy? Sorry, but NO!
A question (which I think she kifed as well) that my wife always asks
the girls that she works with (and works for guys as well) is, "Are you
dressing attractively or dressing to attract?" When you dress in ways
that are specifically intended to get the opposite sex to notice you,
you might as well just jump in the sack with them.
Yes, I know that statement will piss some of you off. Well, DUH!!!
Sometimes the only time you guys listen is when you feel that you have
been insulted and need to prove yourselves. And often, the things that
offend us the most are the things that are true and hit too close to
home. My intent is to get you to think, to look in your heart and to
get you to evaluate how closely your thoughts, feelings and life in
general measure when compared to Christ.
Before I go, please know that I say these things in love. Those of you
that know me should (I hope!) know that I love you and would do
anything I can to serve you and see you walk with God. And, by all
means, comment on this and give me your thoughts. I have TONS to say
on this subject and this is just my most recent impression.
Peace and Blessings,
K.J.
